  2. Hadley, Question One: He returns to France after finding a huge sum of jewels and gold, so he pretends to be the Count of Monte Cristo. He does this because even though he looked a lot different after prison, he still didn't want to be recognized. He also does it because you are much more likely to get what you want if you have money.

    1. I mostly agree with you Hadley but you could've added the fact that if he came back as Edmond Dantes he would be arrested.

  3. Dantes comes back to France as the Count of Monte Cristo. I think he does this to get revenge on Fernand and Danglars so they won't recognize him and he won't get recognized by someone and get thrown back in prison.

    1. Alejandra- I thought he came back as an Italian priest. Although, he does have multiple disguises throughout the book.

The disguise when Dantés first returns to France is because when he first escaped everyone was on the lookout for him. This in turn had him change his beard and his hair. He had already looked so different though because he had aged so much.

  5. Alejandra- When Dantes returns to France, he dresses up as a priest with expensive clothing a three-cornered hat. I think that Dantes does this so that know one will recognize him. He also might have dressed like this because he wants to get respect and be able to get information about what has happened in the past years when he went to prison.

    2. I agree with you about Dantes coming back in a disguise so no one would recognize him. Where in the book did it say Dantes dressed up as a priest?

  7. Kylie- Dantes comes back as the Count of Monte Cristo. I believe he does this so he won't get thrown back in prison. He also did this so Fernand and Danglars would fail to reconize him.

    1. I understand he had multiple personas but I thought his initial return was as an Italian priest. But, other than that I think your comment is good.

  8. Talon question three- Dantes get Caderousse to reveal information by posing as the abbe Faria then telling Caderousse that Edmond died in prison. Caderousse told Edmond that Fernand and Danglars wrote a letter to denounce Edmond as a Bonapartist

  9. I think Dantes will keep the information to himself, and use it against someone if he needs to. It doesn't nessicarily have anything that could potentially hurt someone, I dont think- Kaelyn

The Italian priest Dantes disguises himself as tells Caderousse that Edmond found a diamond in prison and wanted to split the sum with the five people he truly loved. Caderousse and his spouse being poverty-struck took up the offer so then Caderousse seeing his chance to secure the diamond all for himself gave information about Edmond's imprisonment and events that occurred after Dantes incarceration.

Life of Pi 2

Read the information below and respond in a comment to ONE of the questions. Be sure to restate the question. Chapter 5 Pi was unhappy as a child with his name (Piscine), as it was often mispronounced as “pissing” when it is meant to be pronounced as “pea-seen” . For that reason as he grows up and enters the next level of school, he makes a show of jumping up during roll call and announcing to the class that his name is “Pi” even illustrating it with the mathematical symbol on the chalkboard. 1. Why is it, as Pi suggests, “a law of human nature that those who live by the sea are suspicious of swimmers”? (p 22) 2. Pi explains “in that elusive, irrational number with which scientists try to understand the universe, I found refuge.” (p 24) How does this explain Pi’s character and nature?

Life of Pi 3

Read the information below and respond in a comment to ONE of the questions. Be sure to restate the question. Chapter 16 Pi’s first visit to a Hindu temple as a child is full of wonderment and worship rituals. He describes the details of the rituals and what they stand for in the religion. He is a very religious man and enjoys it, but explains that fundamentalism is flawed with a story about Krishna disappearing before possessive milkmaids. He mentions both Christians 13 for their trust in love and Muslims for their awareness of God in everything. He makes a very circuitous description of how different the religions are and yet how with a different hat they are completely interchangeable.  1. Pi suggests that “many people seem to lose God along life’s way.” Why is this the case? Is this true of our community/ society?  2. Describe the significant rituals of each of the religious traditions that Pi embraces.  3. Pi says “the universe makes sense...
